Rotator Cuff Repair

I am currently getting ready for my shoulder surgery. I have been waiting for a long time for this surgery and I am really looking forward to it. I’m getting a rotator cuff repair near the Melbourne CBD tomorrow morning and I will need to stay at the hospital overnight. So I’m packing for a couple of nights just in case because I wouldn’t want to be caught without enough clothes or underwear just in case I had to stay longer.

The post-surgery care process is well documented, which is nice because I like to know what I’m getting myself into with these sorts of things. I know that once I’m able to return home (likely after twenty-four hours), I’ll have to spend some time in a sling so that I can minimise how much I move it. Then, I’ll need to go to a physiotherapist who will help me learn to move it in a safe way. I’ll be restricted to some pretty limited movement for a while so that I don’t cause any damage to my shoulder. It will take a while for me to heal which is expected and I’m prepared for it. Once I do heal, I’ll be back at the physio so that I can regain strength in my shoulder. At this stage, I’ll also learn how to move my shoulder normally again.

Once I’ve had my shoulder surgery, I hope to never have to have another surgery again. I don’t want a few years to go by only to be told that I need an elbow arthroscopy or something like that. I don’t want to be told that I am in need of back surgery, neck surgery – anything. This is my last surgery for the rest of my life and I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that’s the case. I hope that I can manifest this and make it happen.
